Segment Effects
Segment effects are different from transition effects in that they are applied to entire
clips in a sequence. Segment effects affect the picture for the entire duration in the
Timeline.
To apply a Segment Effect, open the Effect palette and drag the Segment Effect
to the clip in your Timeline.
Whew! That was hard. Give me a minute to catch my breath. I’m really out of
shape with this effect thing.
Notice that as you drag the effect, the entire clip becomes highlighted. After the
effect is added, an effect icon appears in that clip in the Timeline.
The Effect Editor
Each effect in the Effect palette has parameters—characteristics that are particular to
the effect that can be adjusted and customized. Those parameters are controlled by
the Effect Editor (see Figure 7.14). To open the Effect Editor, click the Effect Mode
button.
For ease of use, another way to do this is to change your toolset. Remember
the toolsets? Changing to Effects Editing does not automatically switch to Effects mode
unless your blue indicator is parked on an effect in the Timeline. But you can enter
Effects mode by selecting the Effect Mode icon. To switch to the Effects Editing toolset,
select Toolset
> Effects Editing. Although the contents of the Effect Editor differ for each
effect, the editor layout is always the same. The Avid Title tool and some third-party
