CHAPTER 3: BASIC EDITING ■
The settings for Free DV (shown in Figure 3.12) are limited when compared
with the settings that can be manipulated in Xpress Pro (I suppose that’s one of the rea-
sons that Free DV is free). With Free DV, you can adjust the following:
Audio The Audio settings (see Figure 3.13) control scrubbing length when searching
for audio cues, audio playback buffers (to ensure playing of longer streams of audio),
panning controls of audio channels, and audio hardware selection.
Audio Project Audio Project settings (see Figure 3.14) control audio sample rates, rate
conversions, audio input settings, audio output settings, and audio hardware selection.
Bin The Bin settings (see Figure 3.15) determine the time interval between automatic
saving of bins (bins are automatically saved at regular intervals), as well as enabling the
Super Bin, which confines bin display to a single window. There is also a preference
selection for the way an object in the bins will load for editing in either a Source or
Record monitor or in a new pop-up monitor.
