CHAPTER 4: THE TIMELINE
Full Resolution You can monitor video in full resolution by either attaching a Mojo or
by turning the digital toggle button to real-time preview off (displayed by a blue indica-
tor). This allows you to monitor in full resolution, but all the effects in your sequence
must be rendered.
Without a Mojo, output to NTSC/PAL cannot be achieved unless all effects are
rendered and the Digital Video out is toggled to the Non Real Time position. If you
have a Mojo attached, there is no need to render real-time effects. Non-real–time effects,
such as third-party AVX effects, will have to be rendered.
Navigating through the Timeline
As you navigate your way through the Timeline, you may find it frustrating. All of
your cuts may appear to be tiny, the system might update or redraw the Timeline
slowly, or you might find it difficult to expand the Timeline to see a small section. Here
are some tools to help reduce your frustration
Focus Button (Xpress Pro Only)
The Focus button will enlarge the Timeline so that 60 frames appear before and
after wherever you’ve placed the cursor on your Timeline. To focus, select the round tar-
get-like button at the bottom of your Timeline. Your sequence will expand so that only
60 frames are displayed before and after the Timeline (blue position indicator) cursor.
To adjust the Timeline back to where it was before you pressed the button, click
the Focus button again. Your Timeline will be restored.
Timeline Scroll
The Timeline scroll bar at the bottom right is like any other scroll bar. Scrolling for-
ward will move the expanded Timeline forward in the sequence. Moving it backward
will move it to previous portions of the sequence. Although the scroll bar may seem
redundant to the Timeline, it can be especially useful when skipping over large portions
of your sequence, especially when the Timeline is expanded and only a small portion of
the sequence is visible.
Timeline Movement Controls
Certain modifiers can be used when dragging through the Timeline to advance in spe-
cific increments. These modifiers can also be used for moving clips using Timeline
editing.
Snap to Head Frames To snap to the head frame of the next transition, Ctrl-click/F-
click and drag the mouse. The position indicator snaps to each first frame of each edit
on the selected track(s).
Snap to Tail Frames To snap to the last frame of each segment, press Ctrl+Alt/F+Opt,
click and drag the mouse. The position indicator will snap to the tail frame of each edit
