CHAPTER 3: BASIC EDITING ■

Finishing the Editing Tutorial

Continue the editing on your own, using all the tools learned thus far. I wrote the story

line that follows. Edit the story as best you can, leaving out less-important elements.

Listen for story content only. Don’t worry about the jump cuts—we’ll fix them later. If

you lost track of how the story should go, take a look in the Finished Sequence bin for

Basic Editing Final for my version of the cut.

She came to one performance, so we put her into a box on the front side there,

and she suddenly sent for the stage manager, and she said, “Send for Alastair

James up here, tell him to come up here.”

Off I scuttled and I said, “I hate to say it, but I think Tin Drawers wants you.”

He said “Oh my God!” and he came up aquake and aquiver and he said, “Yes,

Ma’am.” And she said, “Can’t see … more light I must have more light, more

light.”

So Alastair James said, “Yes, madame”… I mean, to change the light in a conven-

tional theatre is like asking for rain in the Sahara! I said, “What are you going to

do?” He said, “Leave them alone.” So up it came, one of the ballets and she said,

“Get Alastair James up here …,” she said. “Much better. Much better dear boy!”
