■ PALETTE EFFECTS
Ending At Cut Ending At Cut allows the effect to begin before the cut point. The num-
ber of frames in the transition is the determining factor as to when the effect will occur.
For example, a 30-frame transition will occur 30 frames before the original cut point
and end at the cut point.
Centered On Cut When an effect is Centered On Cut, it utilizes equal sides of both
A and B and is centered at the cut point. For example, a 30-frame transition effect
will overlap 15 frames on the A side and 15 frames on the B side. The actual center
point is located at the original cut point. Traditionally, film editors have used cen-
tered transitions.
Custom A Custom transition effect is neither centered on nor begins at or ends at
the cut point. Custom transitions use an unequal number of frames from A and B
sides to complete the transition. There are a number of reasons for creating custom
transitions:
• Insufficient source media on either the A or B side of the transition
• Undesired frames adjacent to the transition on the A or B side
