■ TUTORIAL: CAPTURING TO YOUR AVID

If everything happened the way it is supposed to, you did it! Congratulations.

Here are some things that can go wrong:

• If the deck failed to find a cue point, try giving it a longer or shorter preroll time

under Custom Preroll at the bottom of the Capture tool. If this does not work,

try setting your Mark In point later in the clip.

• If a message appears, telling you that your tape is supposed to be non–drop

frame timecode but appears to be drop frame (or vice versa), try re-marking the

clip, giving it plenty of play before marking in and out.

Now that you have captured a clip, continue this process, but with some

variations:

• Capture on the fly by clearing out all the marks and pressing the Record button

as the tape plays back. To end capture, press the Record button again.

• Capture using a single in mark by marking an in point but leaving the out point

blank. The machine will cue and capture at the in point, continuing until you

click the red Capture button.

• Capture using a single out mark by marking an out point but leaving the in

point blank. To do this, after you find the out point, rewind the tape a little and

click the Capture button while playing. The tape will begin capture and end on

the preset out point.
